A hidden motive…
I had the privilege of beta reading A Tapestry of Secrets well before it came out, and I bought a copy at our local Lifeway when it released, so I know author Sarah Loudin Thomas was surprised to see me in line at her giveaway at the RT Booklovers Convention in Atlanta last year.
“I just wanted to get a picture with you,” I told her.
I love Sarah’s books, and her blog, too. And I truly was excited to say hello to her and several others at the event. But…
Confession time
Quite honestly, the “Books & Chocolate” hour sponsored by Baker Group Publishing enticed me, but the morning of the event, I nearly talked myself out of it.
Yes, there would be books. And chocolate. Nonetheless, did I really want to drive downtown in gray and gloopy weather, pay the ransom of hotel parking, and purchase a rather-expensive one-day pass to the convention? I’m not at all confident on the city streets of Atlanta, and introvert that I am, I don’t love casting myself into oceans of unknown people, even for the sake of books.
For friends, though, it’s doable.
I went. I chatted with friends and fellow authors, got a few pictures, and enjoyed the time.
But here’s something for my own tapestry of secrets: I skipped the chocolate. Didn’t want to risk sticky fingers marring my lovely load of books.
Thanks for reading! Next time, I’ll share a bookish memory about a novel that’s a keeper, just like the guy I married while I was reading it.
