Wicked in O’ahu

Happy 12!

Today my husband, Michael, and I are celebrating our twelfth wedding anniversary. As I’ve written before, we honeymooned on O’ahu, and it was wonderful. I will never forget our beautiful Hawaiian adventure. The flora and fauna, the sights, the food. The rainbows. The romance of it.

You can make the obligatory joke about getting lei’d. It’s fine. And funny.

Honeymooners

We had a wonderful time at the Polynesian Cultural Center luau, where we danced, sampled poi, and each received a beautiful flowered lei.

My husband’s parents gifted us SkyMiles as a wedding gift, which allowed us to travel first class. That was really a treat. Atlanta to Honolulu is a long flight. Of course I brought a long book.

“The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West”–all 400+ pages of them.

The honeymoon’s over

Don’t get me wrong. My hubby’s the best.

As for Gregory Maguire, though… I didn’t know it yet back then, but this author has become tricky to me. I can’t decide whether to love him or leave him. On the one hand, Mirror Mirror. On the other, Lost. Back to the first hand, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Back to the other, A Lion Among Men.

But Wicked, a weighty book for a Hawaiian honeymoon in more ways than one, keeps its spot on my shelf, along with a couple of pressed flowers, reserved from those beautiful leis.

Thanks for reading! In a couple weeks, I’ll share my take on the Icelandic Christmas trend that every bookworm claims they’re embracing…
