What the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) means for this blog

Hi everyone!

I’m not here to explain the GDPR or add my take on it. Like many others, I’m just scrambling to comply and feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Because of the requirements pertaining to data retention and consent for the use of personal information, I’ve decided to make some changes to this blog.

First, I’m no longer going to use MailChimp to offer email subscriptions to my blog, and I will be completely deleting the subscriber list.

Second, I’m removing all names from my WordPress email subscriber list and disabling the option to follow by email.

This might sound a little drastic, but it’s the right decision for me and for this site. Holding onto your data in case I might blog some time just isn’t a good practice in today’s digital landscape.

Also, my posts vary just enough that I tend to worry whether I’m keeping to my brand promises. Folks who subscribed for genealogy content might not have signed up to read about my faith. Readers who are interested in my books don’t necessarily care about Great-Grandma Malita’s cookie recipe. Not to mention how sporadic my posts have been over the years. Yikes.

This would be a lot harder to do if I had a grand blogging empire, but as it is, I’m a little relieved, and I hope you are too.

I’m not shutting down my blog entirely, but if you are receiving this post by email, this will be the last one. You can stay in touch by bookmarking this blog or adding to your favorite RSS reader program, and you can email me anytime or drop a note through my contact page.

I will still use MailChimp for newsletter subscribers. That’s separate from the blog and mostly just about book updates. I write dual timeline novels from a Christian worldview, and you’re welcome to subscribe for updates if you wish.

If you’re interested, my new privacy policy is here. Thanks for reading and for joining me on this leg of the journey.

Blessings,

~Brandy
